Team Jenson continues to win...

The awards continue to roll in for the Jenson USA racing team.

Putting the finishing touches on a tremendous season, Zach Patterson and Rod Leveque rode away with cross country state champion jerseys after the final race of the SoCal State Series in Big Bear, Calif.

Zach earned his title after owning the Expert Men 18 & Under category. He won five of the seven races in the series en route to the top of the podium.

Rod clinched his crown in the Sport Men 30-34 class after only the first five races.

Both received a plaque and a white and red championship jerseys featuring silhouettes of the famed California grizzly bear.

Daniel Perez earned 2nd overall in the Expert Men 30-34 class. Mark Mumea finished 3rd in Sport Men 30-34, and Dean Long took 6th in Sport Men 35-39.

The series featured races in San Dimas, Castaic, Running Springs, Los Olivos, Santa Barbara and Big Bear.

The series final on Sept. 9 was a classic Big Bear course, with a mix of fast fire road, beautiful singletrack and rocky downhill. Experts raced a 21 mile loop. The sport course was about 16 miles.

Zach, of course, won his race. Rod finished 5th after upgrading to the expert division. Daniel, Mark and Dean all closed the series with 7th place finishes. It was a strong finish for Dean, who was still groggy from his duties as grillmaster at the Jenson USA parking lot sale a day earlier.

Although the most serious racing is over for the year, there are still a couple of fun events remaining. Stop by and say hi to the team on Oct. 7 at the next race, the SC Velo XC Challenge at Bonelli Park in San Dimas.

Sat ride photos

Woodstopof_theworldpchelmorrolagw_5 Despite the killer heat in So Cal, there was a die hard group that came out and rode on Saturday.  Aliso/El Morro was the spot to be. 32 miles, 3,850 ft of  climbing. Now that's a ride!

New Champion in Town

Hot off the presses...

He crisscrossed the continent to ride in mud, heat and thin air. He bled, he ached and he burned. But all the hard work paid off, and now team Jenson USA rider Daniel Perez is known across the country as a champion.

In a truly inspiring accomplishment, Daniel has won the 2007 National Mountain Bike Series in the expert men 30-34 cross country division. Daniel clinched the national series last month with a 6th place finish at the finale in Snowmass, Colo.

Daniel competed in all six races in series, which started in April. His stops included Fountain Hills, Ariz., Los Olivos, Calif., Southridge, Calif., Deer Valley, Utah, Sugar Mountain, North Carolina, and Snowmass, Colo.

Like any tough series, this one had its trials. Daniel suffered mechanical problems in Arizona, crashed seven times at Southridge and bonked hard in Utah.

But like a true champion he never relented.

He won in Los Olivos, and finished an impressive fourth on the nasty, carnivorous course in North Carolina.

The series came down to the final race in Colorado, where Daniel clinched the title 9,000 feet above sea level by finishing six spots ahead of his closest rival.

He said winning the series was his number one goal this year.

"It feels great to accomplish my goal," he said. "I thought I lost my chance after Utah, but I fought hard for strong comeback. I would like to thank my family, friends and Jenson USA for all the support they have given me. I can't wait for my resting days...its coming up soon!"

For his series win, Daniel received a red, white and blue champion’s jersey and a wooden plaque.

Daniel's Jenson teammate Zach Patterson also contested the series, and finished a strong 7th in the junior expert men cross country category. He placed 24th in short track.

Congratulations Daniel and Zach on a great season!
