Team Jenson keeps on racking up the wins!
The second round of the Southridge Racing Club’s Shimano Winter Series was both kind and cruel to the Jenson USA racing team. The day brought victory for Rod Leveque, who took 1st place in the Expert Men 27-34 category, but struggle for Mark Mumea, who was unable to finish after suffering a catastrophic flat tire midway through his second lap. Dean Long took 6th place in the Sport Men 35-44 group. The victory at the Jan. 26 cross country race in Fontana, Calif. was Rod’s first in the expert class after a string of 2nd place finishes. His time of 1:53 on the 21 mile course was the fourth fastest among experts of all age groups, and matched his best time ever on the Southridge circuit. The race followed a week of heavy rain in Southern California, but the sandy Southridge course held the water well. The dirt was tacky and fast, and the sky stayed clear and blue just long enough for the race to go off. Round three of the series is scheduled for Feb. 9 & 10. Southridge also hosts downhill, super D and 4x races during its Winter Series, and it’s only a few miles from Jenson’s Ontario retail store. Be sure to stop by and see us on your way to or from the race.
