Jenson USA riders lead the pack

Wow! Jenson USA riders are tearing up the SoCal races this Spring.

Vision Quest / Counting Coup

Jenson USA would like to congratulate the mountain bikers who finished the grueling Vision Quest and Counting Coup events on March 1. Vision Quest, featuring a 55-mile course with nearly 11,000 feet of climbing, and Counting Coup, at 42-miles and nearly 9,000 feet of climbing, are two of the toughest cycling endurance events in Southern California.

Jenson USA team rider Daniel Perez had an amazing 2nd place finish in a field of about 150 riders in the Counting Coup. Daniel broke off an almost unthinkable time of 4-hours 22-minutes to earn the spot.

His teammates, Mark Mumea and Rod Leveque, both completed the Vision Quest, which traversed the same route as the Counting Coup, with an additional climb and descent before the finish. Mark finished 33rd in the 180-rider field with a time of 6-hours 50-minutes. Rod finished 50th with a time of 7-hours 16-minutes.

Though not technically races, a handful of elite riders, such as Daniel, compete for the bragging rights that come with the top times. The vast majority of participants, however, simply enter for the challenge of completing the agonizing journey through the rugged Cleveland National Forest above Orange County, Calif.

The twin events were organized by the Warrior's Society, a group of cyclists, trail runners and hikers who have dedicated themselves to improving and protecting the trails of the Trabuco District of the Cleveland forest.

Bulldog Road Race

This event takes place yearly on the Marine Base at Camp Pendleton. It's a challenging 27 mile course with plenty of climbing. A wide spectrum of abilities is present - from the hardened USCF crowd, to first-time racers.

In the Men, 30-34 category, Jenson USA rider Tim Pickett placed first, making his move on the big climb; and Justin Christopher crossed the line in fifth in a bunch sprint. Matt Callaghan finished 11th in the Men's 25-29 category.

Congratulations to Vision Quest finishers Jeff Do and Tyler Cannon

We would like to extend a big congratulations today to Jenson USA employees Jeff Do and Tyler Cannon, who completed the Warrior's Society Vision Quest ride over the weekend. The Vision Quest features 55+ miles of riding with 11,000 vertical feet of climbing in the Santa Ana mountains of Southern California. More info about the Vision Quest.

This was Jeff's first attempt at the Vision Quest event, an extremely challenging event that many abandon and/or make multiple attempts before finishing ahead of the cut-off times. Jeff's finishing time of 8 hours, 30 minutes of hard work on the bike paid off. Tyler really had to hustle to make the last cutoff, and slipped in just under the wire thanks to some hard effort.

Way to go Jeff and Tyler!

You're going singlespeed - whether you like it or not!

This past weekend we spent Sunday riding in the national forest above Pasadena, CA. Carrying the appropriate tools is always important, but especially so as you get further and further away from civilization.

All was going well, until Wayne sucked a stick up into the rear derailleur:

Oops... that stings.

Fortunately, Wayne was carrying a chain tool and was able to shorten the chain and make an ad-hoc singlespeed.

... and was able to complete the ride with 1 gear  :)

So the moral is always carry your chain tool and spare links, you might save yourself a long walk out of the wilderness.

Jenson USA at the Races

What a busy weekend at the races for JensonUSA! We had great representation at the Warrior Society 6 hours of Orange County. Our own Justin Christopher rode it solo, even with a nasty cold going on. No team support for this guy. Then we had our newest employee, Jeff Do, riding as part of a 3-man team. They finished on the podium in 3rd place. Way to go Jeff! You might talk with Jeff if you call into the call center. Then our newest team rider Rod Leveque, as part of a Jenson 3-man team, finished a fantastic 2nd place. Along with Rod's team of Dean Long and Thomas Stockton, they finished behind only the powerful Sho-Air team. So Jenson had the 2nd and 3rd team spots on the podium in this tough 5.6 mile course with 1,253 feet of total elevation gain per lap.

Then Rod went out on Sunday and raced the Cal State XC final at Castaic Lake. Again podium for Rod! He fought for 3rd place out of a strong field of 17. That's guts after the 6-hour the day before. Great weekend for Rod and Jenson!

Best wishes to Francis Cebedo

We were saddened to learn that our friend Francis Cebebo, the head honcho at MTBR.com, was injured in an MTB accident this week in Northern California.

Fortunately he's going to be OK, but has some broken bones, bumps, and bruises; and will need some surgery and dental work before he's ready to hit the trail again. More details on this thread at MTBR. I'm sure he would appreciate hearing from you, get in touch via MTBR's contact page.

Francis is one of those guys who is just as nice as can be, whether you've known him for years or are just meeting for the first time. Good vibes coming your way, Francis - get well soon.
